NEWS! NEWS! NEWS! I am so lucky that I had dinner on Saturday night, with the artist who is doing the mosaic work for the Stations of the Cross for the new church. I had a sneak peak at the work. AMAZING!!!

Kath is her name, and I went to primary school with her. She also made the mosaic outside the Library.

If you didn’t go to the International Kitchen lunch in the school hall yesterday, you really missed out. Tonight I am having Father Longinous’ lamb curry for dinner!

Have a lovely week everyone. Mrs Mills

Foundation Creation!

Today the Foundation students led the parish Mass, with the theme of Creation. The students displayed Creation pictures called mandalas. They sang about animals and God’s World. Father Longinous led the Eucharist, teaching the children a song about Jesus. He also taught the children a response: He says, “Children, children” and the children respond, “Friends of Jesus”. It was a lovely morning of praise and thanks for God and the gifts of creation.BBCreationFigureslARGE

Saintly work Level 2!

IMG_0026IMG_0037On Thursday 26th June, Grade 1 and 2 invited their families to a special Mass on Saints. We all learnt that even saints make mistakes! Father Brian taught us about Saint Mary McKillop, Australia’s first saint, and that she was rejected by the Catholic church earlier in her life. The students in year 1/2 and their families did a home activity on saints. There are some pictures of this work here. Also, a beautiful poster on saints was presented at the Mass. The two blankets knitted by our community and friends, were brought up to Father Brian to pass on to St Vincent de Paul society. We were very happy to see parish and school joining together to pray, with lots of school families at the Mass too. IMG_0032IMG_0033IMG_0035IMG_0036IMG_0038

Moving Museum Day

You would have been surprised to see Sister Mary McKillop and Caroline Chisholm and Archbishop Daniel Mannix  in the year 56 area today! These were just some of the people our year 56 students have been researching. At their Museum in Motion Day, they dressed in clothes of the day and presented facts and stories, plays and poems of a range of Australian people of the past who have made a significant contribution to our land and our religion. Spiritual Action Team

IMG_1837 IMG_1838 IMG_1840 IMG_1841 IMG_1849This week the student Spiritual Action Team handed over two colourful, warm rugs to the student Mini Vinnies Action Team. Thanks to members of our community and beyond, who helped with knitting and sewing these lovely rugs. They will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul society’s winter appeal.

Next term there will be another craft group running for a different purpose. Anyone will be welcome to join in. It will involve, cutting fabric, using craft glue and making something for students to use in RE lessons. It will run any time it suits parents and other interested helpers e.g. in the morning after school drop off, in the afternoon before school pick up time. It will be in the parent lounge. Watch this space and the newsletter for the updates.

What is KidsMatter? It is a framework that helps us to make sure all students are catered for, in every way. All staff are being trained over 2 years. So far we have completed part 1. What actions have we taken? We have the KidsMatter notice board at the front of the school where we advertise events, including our play group that is run by one of our parents, (Kate) twice a month. We have just completed a wall “Every Face has a Place,” where all students have drawn and displayed their faces on posters. This is a part of our theme that everyone is included in our community.

The Student Wellbeing Action Team have been researching the countries our families come from. They have then found out how to write the word “welcome” in the each language. Watch out for an outdoor display that we will make this term!

Resurrection Mass

On Friday 23rd May we celebrated the  Resurrection, with a whole school Mass. Foundation students carried in posters of their faces. Please come and see our wall of faces in the main corridor of the school.  We also honoured Kath Sweeney, the artist who made the beautiful glass mosaic that hangs outside the Contemporary Learning Space. Our church was full as we prayed and gave thanks for the Resurrection. Thanks to all our families who came along to Mass too. Thanks to the students for performing the gospel and for beautiful singing.

Signs of New Life

Our foundation students have chickens in their classroom. They are beginning to hatch. Ask your class teacher if you can visit!!!

First Eucharist

This weekend we commence first Eucharist at Saturday night (6.30pm) and Sunday (11am) Masses. Come along and share in this special occasion and pray for our candidates.

Can you find the Holy Spirit?
